Members of the European Commission, representatives of national authorities, building industry experts and EU-funded projects, gathered together in Bucharest on 24 October 2017 at the workshop “Vocational skills for energy efficient buildings”, to present and discuss challenges and opportunities in relation to empowering skills to support the quality of building construction and the rate of building renovation towards NZEB. On 11 October 2017, the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) of the European Parliament voted positively for the Report on the review of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), approving the rules to channel the focus towards energy-efficiency and cost-effectiveness of building renovations in the EU, updating the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) as part of the “Clean Energy for All Europeans” package. According to the rapporteur of the Committee, Bendt Bendtsen (EPP, DK), this vote of the Parliament gives a boost to long-term planning of energy efficiency renovations, facilitating access to financial tools, showing investors that energy efficiency renovations are prioritised, and enabling public authorities to invest in well-performing buildings....

The Clean Energy for All Europeans package was main topic of discussion of the European Energy Council meeting of 26 June 2017. The Council agreed its position on the two proposals for revised directives on Energy efficiency and Energy performance of buildings. The EU Sustainable Energy Week 2017 (EUSEW 2017) “Clean Energy for All Europeans” takes place from 19 to 25 June 2017. EUSEW 2017 includes the High Level Policy Conference, the Sustainable Energy Awards competition, the Energy Days and the Networking Village. Since January 2017, the BUILD UP webportal is accessible in seven languages (Croatian, English, French, German, Italian, Polish and Spanish), to foster exchange of information among peers across Europe. In the newly introduced BUILD UP Ask the Experts section, stakeholders have the opportunity to pose their questions to a group of specialists. Finally, the BUILD UP Topics filter BUILD UP content based on specific thematic areas, providing easy access to information as per users' specific interests....

With about 120 participants in Malta, and even more following the event via live webstreaming, the CA EPBD workshop with panel discussion "Smart Buildings for a greener Europe: Emerging Policy and Practice", organised on 14 February 2017, is considered to be a great success! The event panel included experts from industry, academia and the European Commission to discuss "What are smart buildings?" and "How can they help improve the energy efficiency of Europe's building stock?", as well as to answer a variety of questions raised by participants on site or via twitter/email.
