On 2 February, the BUILD UP portal for energy efficient buildings held an online web-streamed event to mark the launch of the improved BUILD UP website. On this occasion, Concerted Action EPBD III was invited to present some of its latest findings, including highlights from the latest Core Theme reports. The event acted as the public event to support the launch of the latest CA EPBD Book. Guests included Paula Rey Garcia, Buildings Team Leader of the European Commission’s DG for Energy, Eduardo Maldonado, CA EPBD III Coordinator, Susanne Geissler of the Austrian Sustainable Buildings Council, Wina Roelens of the Flemish Energy Agency, Heike Erhorn-Kluttig of the Fraunhofer Institute for Buildings Physics and Jens Laustsen, CA EPBD IV Coordinator. STAKEHOLDERS MEETING EU Sustainable Energy Week, Brussels, 28/6/2013 Under the auspices of the Irish EU Presidency – represented by Mr. Fergus O’Dowd, T.D., Minister of State, Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government of Ireland – the 2012 Book ‘Implementing the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive -  Featuring Country Reports’ was handed to Ms. Claudia Canevari, DG Energy, EC during the joint EC - Concerted Action EPBD stakeholders event on the 28th of June 2013. Panel discussions followed between several top experts in the field of the EPBD and the market. The first discussion triggered interest through visionary views on the progress in Building Energy Efficiency in the EU. The second focused on Driving the market transformation and dealt with Vision,Challenges, and Opportunities for  Delivering the Potential. Automatic monitoring systems for heating, cooling, and other technical building systems are mentioned in the recast Directive 3 times. This encourages their adoption, and there is a strong incentive if it can be shown they are able to reduce the need for physical inspection. Monitoring has been discussed twice in technical sessions of CA-3. Those responsible for implementing the recast Directive were urged to allow for the possibility of introducing automatic monitoring later, even if such schemes are not yet ready. It is important not to close off the opportunity inadvertently, but the case for building it into legislation requires further development and convincing evidence. CA members requested this to be expressed in terms that can be presented to those responsible for introducing national legislation. It fosters exchange of information and experiences amongst representatives designated by all 27 Member States, plus Norway and Croatia. The Concerted Action EPBD is organizing its annual Stakeholders meeting in Brussels on June 28, the last day of the EU Sustainable Energy Week, where it will launch the Book of National Reports 2012 containing the national reports describing the EPBD implementation in all the MS at the beginning of 2013.
